The Great War

After establishing a clubhouse in December 1915, now known as Talbot House, Poperinge even became the base for entertainment. Soldiers could enjoy themselves there carefree, have fun and, yes, even unwind for a while. There was entertainment and music for soldiers of every rank.

But there were also casualties. Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery is just one witness to the years of war. You found the largest evacuation hospital in the Ypres Salient there.
